Fall 2025–Spring 2026: Memory, Identity, and Material Expression

The current winter exhibition (November 2025–April 2026) anchors the lobby gallery with the vibrant, immersive work of Afro-Caribbean artist Picardo. Known for his large-scale murals and live painting performances, Picardo brings a kinetic energy to walls and public spaces alike.

For more than two decades, his art has woven together tradition and modernity, transforming institutions such as the Grand Rapids Children’s Museum and contributing significantly to Miami’s cultural landscape. His work has appeared at Art Basel Miami and in exhibitions across Italy, consistently engaging in a dialogue between past and present, memory and lived experience.

Now based in Sarasota, Picardo’s exhibition, Expired Memories, explores the delicate and shifting nature of memory—how once-vivid moments fade, fragment, and quietly merge with present realities. Through layered color and expressive form, he invites viewers into a landscape where history subtly shapes perception, often in ways we do not consciously recognize.

“The Flag”

In honor of America’s 250th birthday, Art Ovation presents The Flag, an exhibition examining the American flag’s singular position in the national consciousness—simultaneously universal and deeply personal.

Curated by artist Andrea Dasha Reich, the exhibition brings together nine Sarasota-based visual artists who explore national identity through diverse visual languages and material approaches.

“As America approaches its 250th birthday, I’m bringing together nine Sarasota visual artists exploring their feelings about America and its flag,” Reich notes. “Welcome to The Flag—diverse explorations of national identity through art.”

Featured artists include Duncan Chamberlain, Marianne Chapel, Steph Gimson, Mara Torres Gonzales, Jonathan Herbert, Jana Millstone, Anja Palombo, Andrea Dasha Reich, and Yajaira Urzua-Reyes.

The exhibition invites viewers to reconsider a familiar symbol through fresh and deeply individual perspectives.

Miyoun (Mimi): The Place of Love

Also on view is the work of Korean-born painter Miyoun (Mimi), whose artistic practice seeks beauty beyond the surface—beauty that heals, uplifts, and connects.

Drawing from both Eastern and Western traditions, Mimi’s visual language merges the contemplative stillness of Asian aesthetics with the expressive freedom of Western abstraction. Her exhibition, The Place of Love, creates a dreamlike environment where themes of emotional truth, clarity, and compassion unfold with quiet grace. The work bypasses intellect and speaks directly to the soul—offering moments of reflection in an increasingly accelerated world.

John McCaskill: Survival: A Wayfarer’s Study

John McCaskill – Sails of the Ancestors Atribute to Hōkūleʻa

Celebrated mixed-media artist and master printmaker John McCaskill, based in St. Pete Beach, presents Survival: A Wayfarer’s Study, a retrospective spanning 2000 to 2024.

Educated at the San Francisco Art Institute and the University of Nevada, and a former instructor at the Honolulu Museum of Art School, McCaskill blends traditional printmaking techniques with painting and contemporary design. His works—often inspired by travel and the natural world—trace themes of resilience, culture, and healing, offering viewers a richly textured record of artistic evolution.

Pamela Olin: Between Earth and Sky: Sculptural Meditations in Steel

Pamela Olin – Horizon

Sculptor Pamela Olin transforms industrial steel into works of striking emotional resonance. With more than three decades of experience, she explores the interplay between raw material and human vulnerability—between strength and fragility, permanence and transience.

Her exhibition, Between Earth and Sky: Sculptural Meditations in Steel, reveals a dynamic interaction of geometric form, natural rhythm, and urban influence. Weathered textures and vibrant color palettes evoke vast landscapes and celestial cycles, inviting viewers into a tactile, contemplative encounter.

The exhibition remains on view through May 3, 2026.

Looking ahead, anticipation is mounting for the Spring 2026 Exhibition, opening May 12, 2026.

Pascal Benichou – Sound of Your Voice

The Lobby Gallery will feature Pascal Benichou’s Exhibition, “Places and Landscapes”, while the Crescendo Gallery will host a group exhibition titled Echoes of Yesterday, presented by M A R A Art Studio + Gallery on Sarasota’s Palm Avenue.

In the Elevator Lobby Galleries, Jonathan Herbert will present Liminal Alchemy on Levels 3, 4, and 5, while Richard Shaffett’s exhibit, Gulfstream Dreams will occupy Levels 6, 7, and 8, transitional spaces into curated artistic moments.

Artist & Master Art Conservator

Born in the Bronx in 1965, Julia Rivera has built an international reputation as both a fine art conservator and a multifaceted artist. Her practice is grounded in rigorous academic training across the United States and Europe.

Rivera earned her Bachelor’s degree in Art Education from the Escuela de Artes Plásticas in San Juan, Puerto Rico, and continued her studies in Florence at the Studio Arts College International (SACI), where she received her Master’s degree specializing in 17th-century painting and restoration. Her education also includes sculpture studies at the Art Students League of Manhattan, additional training at the New York Art Studio, and a study residency at the National School of Fine Arts in Paris. Her work is held in permanent collections in Texas, Madrid, and Paris. Defined by a deep engagement with the human condition, Rivera’s paintings and sculptures explore vulnerability, identity, and emotional resilience. Blending classical discipline with expressive innovation, she creates work that invites contemplation—and leaves a lasting impression.
