Where Art and Living Converge

Suzanne Bellehumeur’s visionary new boutique and gallery transforms Greenwich’s design landscape

A new creative beacon has emerged in the heart of Greenwich’s Design District. Greenwich Art + Design—the latest addition to East Putnam Avenue’s thriving corridor of design houses and ateliers—invites visitors into a world where art, fashion, and interiors exist in seamless harmony.

Suzanne Bellehumeur

Founded by Suzanne Bellehumeur, a celebrated muralist and decorative painter whose work has appeared in Vogue, HGTV, The New York Times and Connecticut Cottages & Gardens, the two-level boutique and gallery at 7 East Putnam Avenue celebrated its grand opening on September 25 with a solo exhibition by renowned artist David Dunlop.

The Space

The boutique unfolds as an immersive experience. Upstairs, sunlight streams through large windows, illuminating vignettes that blend art and function—abstract canvases paired with sculptural furnishings, silk-covered walls that offset jewel-toned textiles, and tables adorned with delicate trays by Roberto Cavalli Home and Missoni.

Bellehumeur’s own mural work and wall finishes appear throughout, serving as both backdrop and centerpiece. Even the clothing displays are artworks in themselves—graceful, suspended frames crafted by a female welder on a Native-American reservation in Canada. These custom installations float above the floor, allowing uninterrupted views of the murals that wrap the gallery in color and movement.

The boutique showcases Bellehumeur’s hand-picked finds: cashmere throws from Scotland, Christian Lacroix and Designers Guild pillows, Murphy & Daughters apothecary products, Eloro candles, bespoke credenzas and benches, and an evolving collection of art and accessories that reveal Bellehumeur’s global eye.

A Gallery Below

Down a staircase at the rear of the store lies the lower-level gallery, an intimate sanctuary dedicated to fine art. Following Dunlop’s luminous opening show, the space has since debuted “BACKBEAT—The Lost Photography of Michael Friedman,” in collaboration with ClockJack Productions, was on view through January 4, 2026.

The exhibition reveals a remarkable cache of never-before-seen black-and-white photographs captured by Friedman between 1968 and 1973—images long hidden in storage boxes until rediscovered in his Fairfield County attic. These striking portraits of Janis Joplin, Tina Turner, Kris Kristofferson, Todd Rundgren, and The Rolling Stones offer a behind-the-scenes look at rock ’n’ roll’s golden age, filled with unguarded moments of friendship, joy, and rebellion.

Michael’s shots are a glimpse behind the curtain—moments of energy and intimacy among friends who would unknowingly become icons,” says curator P.J. Griffith of ClockJack Productions. The November 15 opening reception drew a lively crowd for a conversation with Friedman, who shared the stories behind the images—many captured when he was working alongside music manager Albert Grossman during the height of the 1960s music scene.

For Bellehumeur, BACKBEAT embodies the spirit of her gallery: “Art should move us—whether it’s a mural that transforms a room or a photograph that captures a fleeting moment in time,” she reflects. “This show reminds us that beauty and emotion can live anywhere—in a home, on a canvas, or in a memory preserved through a lens.

It is a rare jewel that enhances the Greenwich Design District with depth, beauty and cultural resonance.”

Neighbor and stylist Edward Tricomi, owner of Warren Tricomi next door, shares her enthusiasm: “Suzanne Bellehumeur is one of the rare talents who can unite a store and art gallery in a magical, whimsical way — where art and design meet. With Greenwich Art + Design, Suzanne has created a community-enriching design destination and a welcome addition to Greenwich.”
