The Mosaic Hotel Collection

Luxurious Modern Boutique Hotels that Blend Beautifully with their Destination

Founded and guided by the vision of Bay Area native Tim Harmon, a real estate and business attorney and former director of development for Auberge Resorts, which was created by his family—The Mosaic Hotel Collection’s properties are designed to provide guests with immersive experiences, blending a genuine love for hospitality with cultural and culinary expertise—Most people know about the restaurants first before discovering they are in a hotel. Harmon draws from a wealth of experience traveling the world and profound culinary knowledge to create experiences that resonate with guests, overseeing all aspects of business operations and new property development. Mosaic is the hotel division of Palisades Hospitality which started as a restaurant company in 1987, and owns and operates restaurants in California, Texas, and Seattle, most notably Piatti, which is a portfolio of 7 long-standing neighborhood Italian trattorias focused on freshly made pasta and warm, inviting atmosphere, providing guests with a sense of community. An exceptional dining experience is a hallmark of each property, making them celebrated culinary destinations for travelers, and favorites for loyal locals.

Melissa Glazier, head of sales and partnerships, connected us with the opportunity to explore the four Northern California jewels in the crown that is the Mosaic Hotel Collection…

Olema House and Due West Tavern Restaurant (Marin County Coast)

Olema House

To our surprise and delight, we found our cares melt away the minute we set foot in Olema House and were welcomed by staff that treated us like long lost friends. You feel a world away, though you’re in arm’s reach. Just an hour north of San Francisco in Olema, near the Point Reyes National Seashore, Olema House is an intimate, tranquil escape and perfect place to stay when exploring the Marin Coast. Surrounded by national forest parkland and pristine coastal wilderness, this idyllic retreat offers an eclectic mix of urban sophistication and Bohemian charm, making it the perfect getaway for enjoying one of Northern California’s most serene and picturesque locales. From hiking, biking, kayaking and birding to simply unwinding on your private patio or lounging on the great lawn while gazing out at Olema Creek, Olema House invites you to become immersed in its beautiful natural environment. Enjoy horseback riding along the creek, directly behind the hotel—tie up and have a delicious bite at Due West, sip on your morning coffee or a glass of wine while taking in the scenic beauty of towering trees and sounds of nature in an area teeming with wildlife. This is a special place, and Olema House beautifully captures the soul of West Marin and the rugged, remote, and resplendent Point Reyes National Seashore.

More than just a haven for adventure seekers, Olema House allows you to enjoy the West Marin countryside with a style and pace that’s uniquely your own. Discover an array of captivating experiences in your own private sprawling backyard and beyond. From live music under the redwoods to fireside gatherings where you can savor the timeless delight of s’mores, with an attentive staff ready to help plan your adventures, this is the place you will want to make memories at for your Point Reyes stay. Located just five minutes from the charming town of Point Reyes Station, with its cute boutiques and galleries, Olema House is the perfect place to relax and recharge. It is no wonder that Olema House was recently named #1 hotel in the U.S. by Conde Nast Traveler’s Reader’s Choice Awards.

Located adjacent to Olema House, Due West Tavern Restaurant is a modern tavern housed in a cozily refurbished, circa-1865 building. Due West Tavern serves fresh West Marin fare and houses a vibrant market featuring house-baked items made fresh daily and signature picnic staples, making it the ultimate stop-off point to fuel your adventures. The seasonal, farm-to-fork menu highlights inventive, homemade dishes using the best local ingredients including fresh oysters from nearby Tomales Bay, local organic produce from Bolinas farms, and meats and dairy from Point Reyes ranches as well as specialty beers, curated wines, and craft cocktails. Due West reimagines the small-town, Northern California inn as a convivial modern kitchen, uniting locals and faraway guests in a relaxed yet refined setting. On our first visit, we felt like we were home. We started with the heartwarming Olema House Rolls with Caraway seeds, freshly baked and served warm with maple butter and sea salt, the Smoked Cod Dip, and a selection of California Cheeses. The local oysters are second to none—served raw with seaweed mignonette, or baked with fennel, cream, and parmesan. For entrees, we focused on seafood, including the Mussels & Manilla Clams with St. George Absinthe, pasilla chili, tomato-fennel broth, and charred bread, and the Local Black Cod with baby turnips, snap peas, potatoes, fennel, and pickled pearl onions, in a lemon-white wine broth. For dessert, we couldn’t resist the Cast Iron Baked Apple Pie ala Mode, and the Cara Cara Orange Crème Brûlée. With a great selection of local wines and craft cocktails, plus friendly and efficient service, I would be a regular if Due West was in my neighborhood.

Each room is individually designed and thoughtfully appointed, providing guests a range of accommodation options. From Deluxe Rooms with dramatic vaulted ceilings to spacious loft-style apartments and tucked-away private cottages, each room brings an eclectic, modern aesthetic to complement classic lodge living. All rooms feature private bathrooms, radiant heat-warmed floors, down comforters and pillows, as well as views of Olema Creek and the private gardens. This secluded oasis is an ideal spot for an intimate wedding or family gathering (up to 25 guests), something the property specializes in.

North Block Hotel and The Restaurant at North Block (Yountville)

North Block Hotel | Photo by Tanveer Badal

Situated at the north end of town in wine country’s most coveted epicurean destination, North Block is your luxurious home away from home in Napa Valley. A mecca for food and wine connoisseurs, Yountville offers restaurants, small-production wine tasting rooms and boutique shops all within walking distance of the hotel. With a fresh, contemporary design, white glove service, and signature amenities, North Block is a welcoming and unpretentious wine country escape. The hotel recently received Two Michelin Keys under the esteemed guide’s inaugural hotel rating system (two Michelin Keys for a hotel is akin to two Michelin Stars for a restaurant). The 20 guest rooms are sophisticated, well-appointed and comfortably chic. Situated around the social courtyard, rooms on the ground floor feature a patio and upstairs rooms include a balcony, offering vistas of the rolling hills of Napa Valley in the distance.

The Restaurant at North Block is a destination unto itself. From the valley to the coast, the restaurant features regionally farmed, fished and foraged Northern California cuisine for its seasonal menu. Enjoy impeccable service, craft cocktails (we loved the Dark Horse—bourbon, blackberry puree, lime juice, and ginger beer, and the Tropical Negroni—Copalli white rum, Myers dark rum, pineapple-infused Campari, and Mari Gold Amaro), a well-appointed wine list with local and global selections, paired with the stellar cuisine of Executive Chef Juan Cabrera, a veteran in the Napa Valley food scene. A graduate of the Cordon Bleu in Orlando, Chef Juan’s resume includes the Four Seasons Resort Hualalalai, the Fairmont Orchid in Hawaii, Chandon, and Solbar at Solage in Calistoga. In a small town known around the world for its restaurants and chefs, The Restaurant at North Block stands out as an upscale, yet unpretentious place that guests can come as they are and every meal—whether a milestone birthday, a business dinner, a get together with friends and family, or a Tuesday night, is special.

Clearly a great deal of thought went into the creation and execution of each dish, showcasing the finest, freshest food, flavors, and presentation to wow even the most well-traveled gourmand. We began with the 2023 Domaine de la Rivière “Shoshana” Rosé, paired with the Yellowfin Tuna Tartare, art on a plate, with pickled green strawberries, Bing cherries, Brokaw Avocado mousse, crème fraiche, and a sepia ink cracker—a feast for the senses! Known for their stone baked Pinsas (a small, lighter version of pizza made with rice flour), a bite of either the classic Margherita, Wild Mushroom, or Prosciutto di Parma with wild arugula, mascarpone, and Parmigiano-Reggiano will pair nicely with your cocktails and still leave room for what’s next. For Salads, we enjoyed Spring in the Valley, a beautiful plate with fava beans, green strawberries, tiny carrots, tiny turnips, wood ear mushrooms, carrot hummus, cashew cheese, and pepitas, it was almost too beautiful to eat. The Spaghettoni Aglio e Olio with Dungeness Crab meat, garlic, shallots, garden herbs, fresh lemon juice, and Parmigiano-Reggiano was not only delicious, but evoked a sense of place, calling on the chilly nearby Pacific waters for this local delicacy. For Main Courses, The S.F. Halibut with costato Romanesco soubise, heirloom baby squash, Hollandaise, and chervil, the King Salmon with fava beans, baby heirloom carrots, salmon roe, beurre blanc, and micro mint, and the Maple Leaf Duck Breast with confit potatoes, chanterelle mushrooms, Bing cherry jus, and aged balsamic glaze were superb.

North Block Hotel features a year-round heated pool and hot tub with cabanas and convenient food and beverage service, as well as a full-service spa. Guests are invited to in take a calming breath, surrender the senses and nourish the body, mind and spirit, creating an immersive, all-sensory experience. The Spa offers a comprehensive range of services inspired by the Napa Valley surroundings, which may incorporate freshly ground grape seeds and actual wine corks, or feature a combination bike, dine, swim and spa day. The expert staff of licensed massage therapists and aestheticians uses both traditional and technologically advanced methodologies employing the highest quality, sustainably made products, every treatment has been created with comfort and tranquility in mind.

The 20 comfortably chic rooms are designed to leave no need unmet. Guest bathrooms add another layer of luxury with marble vanity and double sinks, a large soaking tub and a separate rain shower. And when it’s time for bed, you’ll want to get cozy in the silky, 300-thread count linens, pillow-top mattresses and feather duvets. North Block Hotel and Mosaic Hotel Collection as a whole believes it’s the little things that make your stay special and unique. North Block’s concierge is at your disposal to assist with Priority Cruiser Bikes for a leisurely ride through the charming town of Yountville or a longer jaunt along the nearby Vine trail, or assisting with restaurant or winery reservations and recommendations. The Fitness Studio features two Peloton bikes, a Peloton treadmill, stretching mats and state of the art equipment.

The Madrona (Healdsburg)

The Madrona Hotel, Healdsburg — Sonoma County, California | Los Angeles Architectural, Interiors and Lifestyle Photographer | Tanveer Badal Photography

Recently named one of the best new hotels in the world by Travel + Leisure, the stunningly beautiful reimagined Madrona has been welcoming guests to Northern Sonoma County since 1881 when the property was purchased and the inn constructed by San Francisco entrepreneur John Paxson. After being shut down during the COVID-19 lockdowns, it was added the curated portfolio of The Mosaic Hotel Collection in 2021 and painstakingly renovated and updated, with no detail left to chance in creating the “new” Madrona. With an incredible collection of artwork and antiques, the hotel was reimagined by San Francisco designer Jay Jeffers breathed new life into the “Grand Dame” of Healdsburg—creating an intimate, luxurious showstopper, a destination for foodies and visitors to wine country, and a new chapter for a beloved local icon. Aside from a decadent dinner at the signature restaurant, strolling the lush gardens, or relaxing by the pool or in the comfort of your guest room, one could spend hours admiring the art, furnishings, and details that have given new life to this iconic property just minutes from the storybook downtown of Healdsburg, at the apex of three of the most important winemaking valleys in Sonoma County—The Russian River Valley, Alexander Valley, and Dry Creek Valley. This is what I call “the Golden Triangle,” an area blessed by Mother Nature, where whichever direction you roam, will discover incredible wines, the bounty of the blessed terrain upon which the vines are cultivated.

The property not only welcomes diners and overnight guests, but has re-positioned itself as a vital part of the local community, hosting movie nights on the lawn which have quickly become a local tradition. The hotel and surrounding verdant manicured eight acres of lawns, hidden corners, emerald-green gardens, panoramic valley views is a draw to locals and visitors alike—The Madrona has a magical allure, a je ne sais quoi that beckons one to return and explore further in the hope it will reveal more.

At The Madrona, guests get lost in the magic of their surroundings. Whether waking up to misty mornings, aimlessly wandering the leafy pathways and storied hallways, reveling in a convivial feast with kindred spirits, or quietly sipping cocktails on the porch to tangerine-hued sunsets, the stately manor welcomes curious travelers from all over for an experience filled with beauty, style, and delight.

“The Madrona is one of those rare places that invites in the extraordinary each day. Its unique history, natural beauty, and seclusion will beckon to discerning seekers far and wide.” —Jay Jeffers, Designer

The Madrona is honored to house a unique and dynamic art collection curated by Dolby Chadwick Gallery. Most pieces throughout the hotel are available for purchase and we encourage you to explore our hallways and find a piece that inspires you. For twenty-three years, Jay Jeffers and Lisa Dolby Chadwick have had a fun and fruitful collaboration finding art for Jay’s exquisitely designed homes. “Jay has been incredibly supportive of our artists over the years — so when he decided to renovate the hotel it was an easy decision,” says Gallery founder Lisa Dolby Chadwick. The resulting collection at the Madrona showcases a wide range of the Gallery’s accomplished artists, including works created specifically for this beautiful site. Located in the heart of San Francisco, Dolby Chadwick Gallery was founded with the vision of creating a community of artists and art lovers, to celebrate the free exchange of ideas, and to advance artistic excellence. Since its inception in 1997, the gallery has built an international roster of artists who create exceptional work that is articulate, visceral, and provocative.

An all-day dining destination that celebrates the cultures, flavors, and welcoming hospitality that define Northern California, the Mansion’s intimate parlors and expansive outdoor spaces feature a variety of culinary experiences to delight guests every day; from quiet early morning coffees and pastries to decadent twilight dinners. The menu draws inspiration from global destinations to highlight the natural beauty of the estate-grown ingredients. The beverage program showcases inventive cocktails, rare spirits, and an eclectic wine list that goes beyond Sonoma’s borders to embrace the work of winemakers around the world. We were hosted by Food and Beverage Director, Moira Beveridge where our exquisite dinner began on a gorgeous early summer evening on the veranda. While overlooking the gardens, we enjoyed Domaine de la Rivière, 2023 “Shoshana” Rosé, Caviar & Onion Dip with trout roe and warm potato chips (option for Golden Ossetra), Kakiage Tempura—maitake mushrooms, kabocha, cauliflower, alium salt, and lemon, and Edamame Spread with warm pita bread. Next, we enjoyed the Ahi Tuna Crudo with avocado, grapefruit, ramps, and shiso, the Coal Roasted Corn with lime aioli, togarashi, and micro herbs, and a beautiful Saffron Angel Hair pasta with uni butter, Calabrian chile, cured egg yolk, and fennel. All of this paired beautifully with Domaine de la Rivière 2019 “Next Door Neighbor” Chardonnay. For entrées we paired with the award winning 2019 Domaine de la Rivière “Middle Reach Vineyards” Pinot Noir, with the Miso Glazed Eggplant with forbidden rice, edamame, and gochujang, Chicken Paillard with spicy brown butter, herb salad, fish sauce, and rice powder, Wild King Salmon with fava bean puree, radish, trout roe, and brown butter, and Wagyu Hanger Steak with duckfat hashbrown, spring onion, asparagus, and black garlic emulsion had us licking our plates. The cuisine by Chef Patrick Tafoya incorporates local ingredients, (much of the produce is grown in the garden behind the hotel) with an Asian influence to create culinary magic. Dessert was worth the longer walk in the morning—starting with the comforting childhood classic Ice Cream Sundae, taken up a few notches with noble folk vanilla, smoked chocolate sauce, pistachio praline, and argonaut cherries, Strawberry Rhubarb Eton Mess with pistachio crème fraiche and seasonal estate fruit, and Chocolate Whiskey Cremeux with salted caramel cream, chocolate wafers and peanut crumble. While The Madrona is indeed a dining destination, it was so nice to be staying on property and retire to the comfort of our luxurious accommodations where we continued to enjoy the evening under moonlight on our private terrace in the Carriage House.

A fixture in the heart of historic Downtown Sonoma since 1851, The Mosaic Hotel Collection has reimagined the El Dorado, bringing it into the 21st Century with luxurious accommodations, personalized service, and exceptional cuisine. El Dorado Hotel & Kitchen is housed in the landmark Salvador Vallejo building, built in 1843 for the brother of Sonoma Valley’s founder. One of the town’s most historic structures, this adobe building has been through various incarnations throughout the decades, including periods as a school, church, and wine-making facility. Thoughtfully redesigned and modernized for today’s guests, El Dorado Hotel & Kitchen is located just steps from Sonoma Plaza’s hip art galleries, world-class wine tasting rooms, and specialty boutiques. Located at the corner of 1st & Spain on the historic downtown Sonoma Plaza, El Dorado Hotel & Kitchen is an elevated, boutique hotel and dining destination that reflects the characterful charm of historic Sonoma and the community who lives here. The dinner menu at El Dorado Kitchen is impressive. Start with a selection of domestic or imported Caviar with classic accoutrements and blinis, and a daily oyster selection. We enjoyed the Steamed Mussels with fennel, white wine, garlic, jalapeno, guajillo purée and focaccia, Roasted Peach Salad with frisee, arugula, sherry vinaigrette, Hobbs ham, cotija cheese, and spiced nuts, and Dungeness Crab Salad with grapefruit, avocado, citrus gelée, apple-kohlrabi slaw, brioche croutons, and lemon vinaigrette. Carnivores will adore the Wagyu Beef Carpaccio with parmesan, truffle aioli, arugula, radish, and lemon vinaigrette. The star of the show was the Seafood Paella—fresh, succulent shrimp, calamari, mussels, market fish, chorizo, saffron, lemon, and crispy bomba rice served in a sizzling hot pan—it inspired me to go out and buy a Paella pan when I got home! The Wild Morel Risotto was another delicious rice dish, where the mushrooms joined roasted corn, spinach, truffle oil, parmesan, and micro cilantro. The Braised Short Rib with mashed potatoes, carrots, spinach, leeks, salsa verde, and bordelaise is the ultimate in rib-sticking comfort fare, while the Seared Scallops with golden raisin, citrus segments, capers, almonds, spinach, Yukon gold potatoes, and cauliflower curry paste were straight from the Mediterranean. An impressive cocktail menu (we loved the “Get Well Soon” featuring turmeric infused Mezcal, ginger, pineapple, and lemon). The thoughtful wine list included many local gems, including Domaine de la Rivière Pinot Noir “Middle Reach Vineyards,” 2020, by our friends Marla and Geoff Bedrosian and renowned winemaker Kale Anderson.

Although each Mosaic Hotel Collection property is uniquely different, there is a commonality among them—a sense of home, a deep respect for place, and harmonious incorporation of place into each property. It’s the hands-on service and family of staff that makes guests immediately feel welcome, like they are family. This is an unspoken aspect of hospitality that is so often missed, but is clearly embedded in the ethos of The Mosaic Hotel Collection. Also, it is the little details. Take the beautiful tote bags in each room—perfect to take to the pool or out while wine tasting—I had to have one, or the rich, handmade black leather embossed coasters at El Dorado. These are found in every room, and are available for purchase—they infinitely above your average coaster (many of which are disposable), and many hotels wouldn’t even think to offer them in their guest rooms. The thoughtfully curated touches of elegance made me want to visit the gift shop to bring a piece of El Dorado home with me, taking my newfound home in Sonoma to my home back east. Each Mosaic Hotel Collection property spoke to me and made me feel welcome, like I was the most important guest there, and every finishing touch and detail had me in mind. For the ultimate in personalized, luxurious lodging and dining in some of Northern California’s most coveted locales, your table and room are waiting at every Mosaic Hotel Collection property. Stay tuned—plans are in the works for a new luxury “mini resort” property in Napa, set to debut in 2026.
